August 30 is International Whale Shark Day, a day created to increase awareness about the importance of whale sharks to our marine ecosystems and to reduce the decline of the species. The IUCN has listed whale sharks as endangered and they are included with six other shark species under the recent CMS Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks.
